Does Artificial Intelligence Belong in Schools? And Why We Created LuminEP

Over the past few years, artificial intelligence has become part of our everyday lives. We ask AI which route to take, how to solve a work-related challenge, how to write an email, or even how to plan a vacation.

However, along with new opportunities comes a new challenge. And nowhere is it more visible than in education.

Today's students have access to an unlimited amount of information. They can find answers to almost any question within seconds. Yet access to answers does not automatically translate into knowledge.

We increasingly see situations where a student successfully passes a test but cannot explain the reasoning behind their answer. They arrive at the correct solution without understanding the process that led them there. Technologies that were designed to support learning are sometimes beginning to replace learning itself.

This challenge became the inspiration behind the creation of LuminEP.

Challenge #1: Loss of Motivation for Genuine Learning

Our experiments revealed an interesting pattern. Many students complete online assessments while simultaneously watching videos, chatting in messengers, or using external tools to search for answers.

This is especially true for multiple-choice tests. Students can achieve good results simply by guessing or finding ready-made answers without truly engaging with the material.

As a result, grades may indicate performance, but they do not necessarily reflect real understanding.

LuminEP takes a different approach to assessment. The platform focuses not only on the final answer but also on the student's reasoning, critical thinking, and understanding of the subject matter.

Challenge #2: Teacher Overload

Modern teachers spend a significant amount of time on tasks that are not directly related to teaching.

Grading assignments, preparing reports, documenting results, managing administrative work, and creating learning materials consume hours every week.

Ironically, while technology is automating processes across almost every industry, many educational workflows remain highly manual.

We do not believe technology should replace teachers. Quite the opposite.

We believe technology should remove repetitive tasks so that teachers can spend more time on what truly matters: educating, mentoring, and supporting students.

That is why LuminEP automates a significant portion of assessment and learning analytics processes.

Challenge #3: Not Enough Time for Every Student

In many schools, a single classroom may contain 20 to 30 students.

Even the most dedicated and motivated teacher cannot realistically provide the same level of attention to every child. As a result, some students miss out on timely feedback, while learning gaps may remain unnoticed until it is too late.

LuminEP helps educators identify weaknesses earlier and provide personalized recommendations to support student growth.

The goal of the platform is not to replace teachers but to make them more effective. To help them see more, achieve more, and dedicate more time to meaningful interactions with students.

Humans Always Remain at the Center of the Process

One of the core principles behind LuminEP is that people should always remain in control of the learning process.

We do not believe in an approach where artificial intelligence makes decisions on behalf of teachers or school administrators. Instead, the role of AI is to assist by analyzing data, identifying patterns, and providing recommendations.

The final decision always remains with the human.

AI can highlight knowledge gaps, help evaluate learning outcomes, or suggest possible development paths. However, it is always the teacher who decides what actions should be taken and how best to support a particular student.

Why We Are Not Afraid of Using AI in Education

As mentioned earlier, artificial intelligence is already part of everyday life.

The question is no longer whether AI will be present in education. The real question is how we choose to use it.

We believe that banning AI is neither realistic nor necessary. Instead, it is important to teach students how to work with these technologies responsibly: how to verify information, think critically, ask better questions, and use modern tools to support their own growth.

For us, AI is not a shortcut to learning or a way to find answers faster. It is an opportunity to make education more personalized, effective, and accessible.

That is the vision behind LuminEP: using modern technology not to think instead of people, but to help people learn better.
