How AI Helps Educators Scale Their Knowledge: LuminEP's Experiment with World War II History

AI in Education · 5 min read

AI is impossible to ignore today. It's gradually entering every area of life — business, development, medicine, education, communication, and creativity. But alongside the enormous wave of interest comes an enormous amount of skepticism. Especially when the conversation turns to education.

Can AI genuinely help a teacher?

Can it work with history, where accuracy of facts, dates, and context matters deeply?

And most importantly — can technology amplify a teacher rather than replace them?

These are exactly the questions the LuminEP team brought to a well-known history teacher for a small but revealing experiment. Together, we decided to build an assessment scenario to test students' knowledge of World War II.

Why This Felt Risky — and Why We Tried Anyway

On the surface, this sounds quite risky. Modern AI models are known for hallucinating, confusing dates, mixing up historical events, or even fabricating facts entirely. That's precisely why history seems like one of the most challenging domains for AI-assisted learning.

But there's one very important detail here.

In most AI solutions, the model tries to "know everything."

At LuminEP, we've built the opposite approach.

Our platform doesn't try to replace the expert. It tries to scale their knowledge.

The Human at the Center

At the center of the system isn't AI — it's a person:

  • a teacher or mentor
  • a team lead or manager
  • a specialist who genuinely owns their expertise

The expert sets the context, the materials, the evaluation approach, and the thinking framework that needs to be passed on. AI simply helps structure that experience and turn it into an interactive assessment.

What Happened in 5–8 Minutes

In just 5–8 minutes, we worked with the teacher to create a complete assessment scenario on World War II history. Not just a list of test questions — a live assessment that:

  • held a dialogue with the student
  • followed up on answers
  • tested understanding of causes and consequences
  • evaluated not just memorized facts, but the student's reasoning

This was a significant moment for us. Because this wasn't a technical specialist — this was a teacher whose entire focus is students, learning, and the subject they teach.

The Problem We're Trying to Solve

There are very few great teachers. And there are far too many students who need their attention.

This isn't just a problem for schools or universities. The same dynamic plays out in companies, mentorship programs, technical training, internal assessment processes, and even hiring.

There are strong specialists who can transfer knowledge, explain complex things simply, and genuinely impact the development of others. But physically, one person cannot scale themselves to hundreds or thousands of students or team members.

That's exactly what we want to change at LuminEP. We believe AI shouldn't take the teacher's role — it should help strong teachers, leaders, and experts reach a significantly larger number of people.

Where the Real Value Lives

Many people today perceive AI as magic — a universal brain that knows everything. But our experience shows something different.

The real value lives in human knowledge — in experience, in methodology, in the way someone teaches, asks questions, and helps others think. That's the "gold" we're trying to scale through the platform.

Technology can accelerate processes tenfold: structuring knowledge, automating routine work, and creating personalized assessment scenarios. But the quality of learning still starts with a person.

The Final Feedback

The best confirmation came from the teacher's reaction after completing his own assessment scenario. He was genuinely surprised by how quickly AI could work with his materials, structure the information, and help build the knowledge evaluation process.

Not replacing him. But amplifying what he's capable of.

What's Next

Our next step is a larger-scale test of AI-assisted assessment for Ukrainian and Western history with real students. We want to understand:

  • how well this approach surfaces gaps in knowledge
  • whether it improves student engagement
  • whether it gives teachers more capacity to work not just faster, but better

We'll be sharing those results in upcoming articles.
